Omid Barkhordar, DDS
If you want to transform the look of stained, chipped or otherwise imperfect teeth, dental bonding offers a terrific solution. The procedure involves covering up flaws with specialized materials, restoring the flawless smile you deserve.
What can dental bonding accomplish?
Dental bonding can transform your smile in incredible ways, by fixing a wide range of flaws that detract from your natural beauty. When the procedure is performed by a highly skilled dentist like Carson’s Dr. Omid Barkhordar, it can:
- Restore decayed teeth
- Fix chipped teeth
- Achieve a whiter smile
- Lengthen teeth that are too short
- Correct oddly shaped teeth so they’re more attractive
Is dental bonding right for you?
There’s no doubt that dental bonding is a highly effective way to restore your teeth, but it’s not your only option. There are other ways to correct an imperfect smile, including crowns and veneers, so you’ll need to carefully evaluate all of these procedures to determine which one is truly right for you.
In general, dental bonding is less expensive and easier to perform than crowns and veneers. It also requires the removal of less tooth enamel. However, the materials used for dental bonding are known to stain more than crowns and veneers, and the restoration may not be as durable or long-lasting. During your initial consultation with Dr. Barkhordar, he will weigh these advantages and disadvantages against your unique needs to help you determine which of these restorative procedures is in your best interest.
The dental bonding procedure
In the vast majority of cases, Dr. Barkhordar can perform your dental bonding procedure without anesthesia. To begin the treatment, Dr. Barkhordar will use a shade guide to select bonding materials that are an exact match for your other teeth. He will then use an etching tool to prepare the tooth surface to receive the materials.
Once your tooth is prepared, Dr. Barkhordar will place a conditioning liquid on its surface, which will work to amplify the effects of the bonding materials. From there, he will carefully mold the resin to the tooth to ensure it looks natural and fits in perfectly with your other teeth. To complete the restoration, he will place a light over the tooth to bond the material, before shaping and refining the bonded tooth to ensure a flawless result.
Once your dental bonding procedure is complete, you’ll need to take special care of your teeth moving forward. The most important step will be practicing good oral hygiene on a regular basis, with twice daily brushing, routine flossing and visits to our Carson office every six months for your dental check-ups and cleanings. You’ll also need to remember that bonding materials may chip if they are not properly cared for. As such, you’ll want to avoid any trauma that may occur due to biting your nails, chewing on pens and eating hard foods.
As long as you follow these aftercare instructions, and any other personalized guidance Dr. Barkhordar provides, your bonding materials should last between three and ten years. At that point, you will require a touch-up procedure to fix any imperfections and maintain your impeccable appearance.
