If you have missing teeth or need to have teeth removed, dental implants may be a good option for you to replace them. Implants are metallic posts or frames with posts that have been surgically placed in or on the jawbone beneath the gums. After a period of time to allow the gums to heal, artificial teeth are mounted onto the posts. Dental implants can be used to mount individual crowns or larger appliances, such as a bridge or dentures. Attaching restorations to implants prevents them from moving or slipping around in your mouth and provides strong, long-lasting stability for eating or speaking. With Dr. Omid Barkhordar at Care Dental Center, you can get among the highest quality dental implants dentistry has to offer.
Types of Dental Implants
There are two types of implants that are performed as recommended by the American Dental Association: Subperiosteal Implants and Endosteal Implants.
This procedure involves fitting a metal frame onto, rather than into, the jawbone below the gum tissue. As the gums start to heal, the metal frame becomes fused to the jawbone. Posts are then attached to the frame, which protrude through the gums. Once the system is all in place, artificial teeth are fixed to the metal posts. These implants are more common with patients whose jawbone is not dense enough to support posts placed into the bone.
These implants are inserted into your jawbone in a series of surgical procedures. These procedures include the surgery to insert the implant into the jawbone, a second surgery to connect a metal post to the implant, and a third procedure to attach a crown or other restoration to the post.
A certain amount of time must pass in order to allow the bone and gums around the implant to heal and to fuse to the implant before replacement teeth can be inserted. Dr. Omid will monitor your progress to ensure your procedure is safe and as fast as possible.
All-on-4® implants involve four implants placed in an arch. A full or partial denture is then attached to the posts. Our dental implants used in this procedure are specially designed for immediate function and typically do not require bone grafting. This treatment is attractive for those patients with dentures or who are in need of full upper and/or lower restorations.
What are the Benefits of Dental Implants?
We provide many patients with some of the highest quality dental implants and offer a revolutionary way to regain the full function of missing teeth and the aesthetic appearance of a full set of teeth in your mouth. Chewing food becomes a pleasure once again, and your confidence soars when you are not worrying about dentures or bridges slipping or moving when you eat or speak.
Since implants fully replace missing teeth, you no longer have to limit what you can eat. Once implants are in place, they function and look just like your natural teeth, right down to the coloration. Implants last a lifetime, unlike dentures and bridges, which periodically need repairs or replacement. Dr. Barkhordar will explain the pros and cons of implants versus dentures and bridges and which would be right for you.
Having implants requires a commitment on your part to take care of them. You can brush and floss implants the same way you would natural teeth. You would also need to follow a regular cleaning regimen for bridges or dentures attached to implants. If you are diligent in taking care of your implants, you should be able to enjoy them for the rest of your life.
