Our Dental Sedation Options

It is the goal of our practice to provide all our patients with high-quality dental care, in a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. That is why we offer our patients a variety of dental sedation options, that will get you safely and comfortably through your dental procedure:

  • Oral Sedation: Oral sedation involves taking a pill in order to cause mild to moderate sedation. Dr. Barkhordar himself will prescribe the pill to ensure its level of strength is right for you and your procedure.
  • General Anesthesia: This sedation option causes you to sleep deeply during your entire procedure. It is given through either an IV or a breathing mask.
  • Nitrous Oxide: This gas sedation option is commonly used for dental treatments and is ideal for those who want to take themselves home afterwards, as its effects do not last too long past treatment. Nitrous oxide is inhaled through a mask that will be placed over your nose.

How Do I Prepare for Sedation Dentistry?

After talking to a dentist during your consultation, we will help you settle on the right sedation option. On the day of your procedure, it is usually advised that you do not eat or drink for a minimum of six hours prior to your appointment.

It you take blood thinners, be sure to tell you dentist; they may ask you to forgo the medication for a few days before your dental procedure.

Can I Return to Work After Dental Sedation?

Only patients that receive nitrous oxide can return to work or school after their procedure. If you choose any other sedation option, have someone you trust ready to drive you home. You will need to rest comfortably until the medication has worn off.

How Much Does Dental Sedation Cost?

Some dental sedation options are integrated into the cost of your dental procedure, costing you nothing extra. General anesthesia tends to be the most expensive sedation option.

Dental insurance may cover a portion or the entire cost of your dental sedation, and our staff will go over all your payment and financing options prior to your appointment.
